Asus ROG has officially teased a new 24.5-inch monitor that aims to merge high-speed competitive performance with the visual benefits of OLED technology. The company claims the upcoming display will be the world’s first esports-focused OLED monitor to achieve a 540Hz refresh rate.
Asus announced the development via a social media post on May 30, 2026, accompanied by the statement, "The esports game is about to change. 🚀 The WW 1st Esports OLED Monitor 🤯." While the manufacturer has not yet released official technical specifications regarding resolution, the 24.5-inch form factor is widely expected to utilize a 1080p panel. This configuration aligns with industry standards for professional tactical shooters like Counter-Strike 2, mirroring the dimensions of popular displays such as the Zowie XL2586X+.
Historically, competitive gamers have been forced to choose between the rapid response times of TN or IPS panels and the superior image quality and motion clarity inherent to OLED technology. Previously, consumers interested in high-refresh-rate gaming were limited to either smaller TN/IPS panels or larger 27-inch OLED models. The new Asus ROG monitor seeks to bridge this gap by offering the "super-snappy response time" of OLED in the 24.5-inch size preferred by many professional players.
According to analysis by PC Gamer, the 24.5-inch form factor is advantageous for competitive shooters because it allows players to monitor the entire game scene, including peripheral movement, without requiring significant eye movement. This size preference is a point of contention for some users, but it remains a standard for high-level tactical FPS play.
Regarding the performance impact of the 540Hz refresh rate, PC Gamer reports that the difference is noticeable for users with hardware capable of maintaining such high frame rates. While the jump from 360Hz to 540Hz is described as less dramatic than transitioning from 144Hz to 240Hz, the outlet notes that for high-level competitive play, the incremental improvement in motion clarity provides a tangible advantage.
This announcement follows Asus ROG’s previous exhibition at Gamescom, where the company showcased a 26.5-inch, 1440p/720p dual-mode 540Hz monitor. However, that earlier model was criticized for its larger size and resolution, which were deemed less than ideal for the specific demands of esports. By shifting to a 24.5-inch, 1080p OLED panel, Asus ROG is targeting the specific requirements of the competitive gaming market.
