Cinematic trailer reveal for Warhammer 40,000 11th edition

Games Workshop has unveiled a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming 11th edition of Warhammer 40,000, shifting the franchise's promotional focus toward a galaxy-wide perspective. According to reporting from PCGamer, the trailer revives the iconic introductory text from the game’s 1987 first edition, utilizing the grim lines, "there is no peace amongst the stars" and "the laughter of thirsting gods" as the primary narration.

The new footage marks a departure from the localized skirmishes seen in previous promotional material. While earlier trailers centered on specific conflicts, such as the battles between Orks and the Blood Angels chapter on the planet Armageddon, the 11th edition trailer adopts a broader scope. The narrative is framed by the journey of a pilgrim traveling toward the Golden Throne, who subsequently joins the ranks of the Astra Militarum.

PCGamer reports that the trailer highlights various factions engaged in conflict across the galaxy. Viewers are shown the Adeptus Mechanicus battling Necrons, while Salamander Space Marines are depicted fighting Tyranids. In a sequence highlighting the grim nature of the setting, the Astra Militarum are shown making a doomed last stand against the Night Lords.

A central visual focus of the trailer is the Emperor of Mankind, shown in several states of decay. PCGamer notes that these varying depictions may represent the physical toll of 10,000 years spent on the Golden Throne, or they could reflect the conflicting perspectives of the Imperium’s subjects—ranging from fervent believers to heretics who view the Emperor as a "false corpse-god on a throne of lies."

Beyond the battlefield, the trailer provides an intense look into the Warp, featuring appearances by the Ruinous Powers and other deities. In a nod to long-time fans, the video also includes a rare moment of tranquility. An Aeldari figure is shown enjoying a moment of peace, serving as a visual homage to a classic 1987 illustration by artist Jes Goodwin that depicted a Dire Avenger on the Biel-Tan craftworld during the game's second edition.

Not every faction is represented in this preview. PCGamer observed that the T’au, Drukhari, and Leagues of Votann are absent from the current footage. Additionally, because the genestealer cults are categorized as a separate army from the Tyranids, they are also omitted from the trailer. Despite these exclusions, the trailer serves as a significant piece of marketing ahead of the upcoming 11th edition release.
