Texas man faces federal charges after Molotov cocktail attack on Sam Altman's home

Federal prosecutors have charged 20-year-old Daniel Moreno-Gama following an arson attack on the San Francisco home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Moreno-Gama, a resident of Texas, faces multiple charges including attempted murder, according to reports from Fortune and TechSpot.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Friday, Moreno-Gama threw a Molotov cocktail at the metal gate of 855 Chestnut Street, according to TechSpot. The attacker used a bottle containing a flaming rag to strike the residence.

Police later detained the suspect outside OpenAI's offices on Third Street. TechSpot reports that Moreno-Gama struck the office's glass door with a chair and threatened to burn down the building and kill anyone inside.

AI extinction manifesto found

During his arrest, San Francisco Police Department officers recovered a three-part document from Moreno-Gama that included a jug of kerosene and a blue lighter. The first section, titled "Your Last Warning," advocates for the killing of CEOs of AI companies and their investors.

According to TechSpot, the document contains a "kill list" featuring multiple names and addresses of industry leaders. Moreno-Gama admitted to attempting to kill Altman within the document and called for others to join his movement.

The second section of the document, titled "some more words on the matter of our impending extinction," outlines his belief that artificial intelligence will lead to the end of humanity. Prosecutors allege the motive for the attack was rooted in these fears regarding AI-driven extinction.
