Krafton is no longer listed as the publisher for the highly anticipated survival game Subnautica 2 on Steam. The change, which took effect on April 7, leaves developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment as the sole publisher listed for the title.
This update follows a period of intense legal friction between the publisher and the studio. The dispute centers on a potential $250 million payout and Krafton's recent decision to delay the game's Early Access release.
Ongoing legal battle
The shift in Steam credits comes after a judge ordered Krafton to reinstate Unknown Worlds CEO Ted Gill. The court also instructed the publisher not to obstruct Gill's authority regarding the upcoming Early Access launch.
However, Gill's legal team claims Krafton bypassed this order by announcing a May release window without his involvement. "Krafton self-servingly announced the launch without any regard to its impact on the game, the team, or the community," Gill wrote in a motion to the court.
At the time of the announcement, Gill had only just been reinstated and had not yet reviewed the studio's current progress. The May launch window places significant pressure on the studio's leadership to manage advertising and publishing logistics under intense scrutiny.
Krafton's removal from the Steam page could be a strategic move for optics or a sign of deeper structural changes. The company has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the change in publishing credits.
