A fan digging through the recently leaked source code for Grand Theft Auto V has uncovered an early character model from 'Agent,' the ambitious, cancelled PS3-exclusive spy thriller from Rockstar Games.
The discovery first surfaced on the GTA Forums. A user named XanaBax pointed out that the 2023 GTA V source code leak contains a folder labeled 'Jimmy,' which is reportedly the internal codename for 'Agent.' The model is categorized under the 'Player' hierarchy and was never utilized in either the base game or GTA Online.
A Decade of Buried Development History
XanaBax’s analysis suggests the model depicts a soldier in camouflage gear, bearing a resemblance to the character model of GTA IV protagonist Niko Bellic and aligning closely with early screenshots of 'Agent' that leaked over a decade ago. The asset’s creation date is listed as 2009, matching the year Rockstar officially announced the project. Additionally, the inclusion of 'NorthRig' in the file name confirms that the title was being developed by Rockstar North.
The history of 'Agent' is shrouded in mystery. Sony first announced a partnership with Rockstar for a new PS3 exclusive at E3 2007. In 2009, Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser officially unveiled 'Agent,' describing it as a game the company had 'wanted to make for a long time.' While Rockstar initially hinted at a 2010 release, the project subsequently vanished from the public eye.
Although Take-Two repeatedly renewed the game's trademark, no further information was ever disclosed. The trademark eventually expired in 2018, and the game's official website was taken down in 2021. A former Rockstar developer revealed in 2023 that 'Grand Theft Auto V' and 'Agent' were being developed concurrently by the same studio. As development demands for GTA V intensified, resources were diverted away from the spy game, leading to its quiet cancellation.
