A robotics engineer has resigned from their position at a robotics company after discovering plans to equip high-end hardware with teleoperated weapons.

According to a post on ycombinator.com, the individual was working with advanced platforms, including hardware from Boston Dynamics and Unitree, before the discovery prompted their departure.

"I found out they were planning to mount teleoperated weapons on the robotic platforms for a demo," the engineer wrote. "I’m not willing to go there, so I resigned without another offer."

New venture targets robotics workflows

The engineer is now transitioning into entrepreneurship to address inefficiencies in how developers interact with embodied intelligence. They noted that while the field is experiencing rapid growth, the software tools and workflows for monitoring and controlling these platforms are lagging.

They are currently conducting customer discovery for new projects focused on the building, testing, and interaction phases of robotics development. The goal involves gathering data on the daily pain points experienced by roboticists and embedded systems developers, particularly regarding control interfaces.

As part of this new venture, the founder has launched a survey to collect raw data from hardware tinkerers and professionals in the field. The project aims to validate new ideas for improving the development lifecycle of robotic systems.
