Microsoft will end functionality for its Outlook Lite app on May 26, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Monday.
The app, which debuted in 2022, served as a streamlined alternative to the standard Outlook application. It was specifically engineered for Android devices with limited storage capacities and for users operating in regions with slower internet connectivity.
This upcoming shutdown follows a previous announcement regarding the app's long-term retirement. Microsoft had originally scheduled the removal of Outlook Lite from the Google Play Store for October 2025.
While the app will remain available in the store for a period, the May 26 deadline marks the point when existing users will lose access to the app's core features. Neowin first reported on the impending service termination.
Transitioning to Outlook Mobile
Microsoft is advising all current users to migrate to the standard Outlook Mobile application to maintain their email services. The company is directing users toward the full-featured version to ensure continued access to their accounts.
“To continue enjoying a secure and feature-rich email experience, we recommend switching to Outlook Mobile,” Microsoft stated on its Outlook Lite support page.
The transition will not result in the loss of user data. Existing email communications, calendar entries, and file attachments will remain fully accessible once users sign into the standard Outlook Mobile app.
Microsoft will provide direct links to the Google Play Store to assist users in downloading the replacement application.
