Linus Tech Tips (LTT), the brand behind prominent tech creator Linus Sebastian, recently launched a $70 ratchet screwdriver. After rigorous testing by PC Gamer, the tool has been hailed as a highly practical essential for PC builders.
While the market is flooded with similar products, the LTT driver is far from a simple rebadged piece of merchandise. It features phosphate-coated bits for rust resistance and a compact, integrated rotating storage chamber that holds 12 bits. Unlike some competing products, the storage mechanism remains secure during use, preventing accidental pops or spills.
A Blend of Utility and Ergonomics
The screwdriver features a 13cm handle with an overall length of 21cm, offering a comfortable grip. The handle’s flattened edges provide excellent leverage, while the knurling on the metal shaft offers extra traction. The ratchet adjustment dial feels solid and precise, supporting clockwise, counter-clockwise, and locked modes with smooth operation.
A key selling point is the magnetic bit holder. PC Gamer noted that for PC builders, the magnetic retention significantly reduces the risk of screws falling into tight chassis crevices. While the $70 price tag places it in the premium category, it offers a notable boost in efficiency for motherboard installations and handling small components compared to standard screwdrivers.
LTT developed the tool in collaboration with professional tool manufacturer Megapro. While Megapro’s own Automotive and Original series screwdrivers are slightly more affordable, they differ from the LTT version in terms of aesthetic design and shaft knurling. Testers remarked that the product exceeded expectations and has already become a staple in their daily toolkit.
In contrast, while the Precision Pro screwdriver released by LTT alongside this model is well-built, it falls slightly short of professional-grade alternatives like iFixit in terms of portability and value. For the average DIY enthusiast, however, this ratchet screwdriver stands out as a top-tier choice that perfectly balances durability with ease of use.
