GoPro has unveiled its new Mission 1 camera line, a series of video-centric action cameras featuring 50-megapixel, 1-inch-type sensors and a proprietary GP3 processor.
The rollout will occur in two waves. The base Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro models arrive on May 28, while the high-end Mission 1 Pro ILS is scheduled for release in Q3 2026.
The flagship Pro ILS model will feature an interchangeable lens mount compatible with Micro Four Thirds lenses from manufacturers like Panasonic and OM Digital. This mount will introduce a 3x crop factor, which GoPro says will limit ultra-wide capabilities but enable high-magnification telephoto shooting.
Professional-grade video specs
The base Mission 1 supports 8K/30 fps video in 16:9 and 4K/120 fps in an open gate 4:3 format. The Mission 1 Pro increases these capabilities to 8K/60 fps and 8K/30 fps for open gate recording, respectively.
For slow-motion enthusiasts, the Pro model can capture up to 960 fps at 1080p. Both standard models utilize a fixed 15mm equivalent f/2.8 lens.
GoPro is also addressing professional thermal requirements, claiming the cameras can support over three hours of continuous 4K30 filming or more than five hours of 1080p30. The hardware includes a new Enduro 2 battery with Power Delivery 2.0 fast charging support, which remains backwards compatible with the GoPro Hero 13 Black.
Audio features include four built-in microphones, 32-bit float recording, and support for Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C audio. For photography, the cameras can produce 50-megapixel RAW files or 12-megapixel 'SuperPhoto' JPGs.
Despite the larger sensors, the Mission 1 series remains compact, waterproof, and shockproof. GoPro plans to sell various kits, including a 'Grip Edition' for mirrorless-style handling and a 'Creator Edition' bundled with a new wireless microphone system.
The new wireless mic system aims to compete directly with mini microphones from DJI and Rode.
