Google has upgraded its Gemini for Home assistant to version 3.1, enabling the smart home system to process more complicated, multi-step tasks and combined requests within a single voice command, according to a report from The Verge.

The update improves the assistant's ability to interpret and act on user instructions. Beyond handling multiple commands at once, the upgrade enhances the system's management of recurring and all-day events, allowing users to "move around" upcoming scheduled items.

This latest release follows recent efforts by Google to refine natural language understanding and device identification. Previous updates aimed to fix issues where the assistant struggled with accuracy in activity summaries or misidentified objects in camera footage.

New web management and notification features

In addition to the Gemini 3.1 rollout, Google announced several improvements to the broader Google Home ecosystem. These include enhanced camera experiences and expanded automation capabilities for smart devices.

Google is also testing two new public previews: Ask Home on Web and an expanded notification system. The Ask Home on Web feature will allow users to manage their smart homes from a computer, providing tools to search camera history using natural language, check device status, and create new automations.

A new notification feature is also entering public preview. This update will include "quick action" buttons, allowing users to control connected devices directly from their notification shade without opening the main app.
