Google Photos is launching a new AI-powered feature that enables users to virtually try on clothing they already own. The update leverages existing images within a user's photo gallery to build a digital 'wardrobe' for testing new outfit combinations.

As reported by The Verge, the tool scans photos to identify individual pieces of clothing and organizes them into specific categories. These categories include tops, bottoms, skirts, dresses, and shoes.

Once the items are catalog and cataloged, users can mix and match these pieces to create new looks and save their favorites. The feature includes a specific function to virtually 'try on' selected items.

A video shared by Google demonstrates the process of identifying outfits from past photos. The app allows users to click a button to see how different combinations would look on them.

Users can also share these newly created looks with friends directly through the app. This expansion follows a virtual try-on feature launched by Google last year.

According to The Verge, the previous iteration of Google's virtual try-on technology was limited to clothing items being purchased through Google Search. This new feature shifts the focus to clothing already captured in the user's library.

The new 'wardrobe' feature is scheduled to begin rolling out to Android devices later this summer. An expansion to iOS devices is expected to follow the initial Android release.
