Sony Pictures Entertainment announced an animated film adaptation of the PlayStation 4 title Bloodborne during the first day of CinemaCon 2026. The project aims to bring FromSoftware’s acclaimed horror title to the big screen via an R-rated feature.

Lyrical Animation will co-produce the film alongside PlayStation Productions and content creator Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin. Lyrical Animation is also currently producing the Death Stranding: Mosquito project for Kojima Productions.

Sony Pictures President Sanford Panitch stated during the presentation that the film will be "very true" to the original game. Details regarding the director and screenwriter remain undisclosed.

Fan reaction remains divided

Jacksepticeye shared his involvement on the r/bloodborne subreddit, expressing high enthusiasm for the role. "I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible," McLoughlin wrote. He added that the project is personal, noting it is his "favourite game ever made."

Despite the creator's enthusiasm, many fans expressed skepticism on social media. Some users on Reddit dismissed the news as a potential April Fool's prank. Others criticized Sony for prioritizing a film over a technical remaster of the original game.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) mocked the announcement, suggesting Sony is finding new ways to avoid releasing a remaster. Other commenters lamented that the studio produced a feature film before providing a 60 FPS patch for the existing title.

No official confirmation regarding FromSoftware’s involvement has been released. The studio's participation or the involvement of director Hidetaka Miyazaki remains unconfirmed by Sony.
