Sony is bringing the gothic horror of its PlayStation hit Bloodborne to the silver screen as an R-rated animated feature. The project marks a new effort to translate the FromSoftware title into a cinematic experience, though Sony has not yet disclosed specific plot details or a release date.

Popular YouTuber Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin, a vocal fan of the franchise, is serving as a producer on the film. Sony confirmed the project is in development but kept further information under wraps for now.

Returning to Yharnam

First released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Bloodborne became a critical success for its atmosphere and unforgiving gameplay. The game follows a protagonist through the crumbling city of Yharnam, where a mysterious virus transforms the population into grotesque, violent creatures.

FromSoftware, the studio behind the dark fantasy Souls series, crafted the game’s dense world-building and lore. This reputation for high-stakes, brutal combat made the title a standout in Sony’s library.

Sony continues to experiment with its intellectual property in television and film. The company saw significant success with HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, though other attempts like Uncharted and Twisted Metal faced more divided receptions. A live-action God of War series is also currently in the works for Prime Video.

Bloodborne is not the only FromSoftware title undergoing a transition to film. Production studio A24 recently announced it is developing an adaptation of the studio's massive open-world hit, Elden Ring, with director Alex Garland attached to the project.
