Porsche will begin selling an all-electric version of its Cayenne coupe in late summer, signaling continued confidence in electric vehicle demand, according to TechCrunch.

The new model, officially branded as the Cayenne Coupe Electric, features four doors despite its coupe designation. It will join a broader rollout of electric SUV variants arriving later this year, including the base Cayenne Electric, Cayenne S Electric, and Cayenne and Turbo Electric.

Porsche's history with coupe-style crossovers suggests the new model could see high adoption rates. When the gas-powered Cayenne coupe debuted in 2019, it captured 20% of the Cayenne lineup's sales within its first year. Five years later, that figure has grown to 40% of total Cayenne sales, with some markets reporting that the coupe variant accounts for as much as 90% of sales, TechCrunch reported.

Coexistence with combustion engines

Unlike the recently announced all-electric Porsche Macan, which will transition to an EV-only lineup after this year, the Cayenne Coupe Electric will not immediately replace its internal combustion or hybrid counterparts.

A Porsche spokesperson told TechCrunch that the Cayenne coupe EV will continue to be sold alongside various fuel-powered variants well beyond 2030.

This long-term strategy allows the company to gather market data on consumer preferences for electric versus traditional powertrains. The new electric variant may benefit from increased utility, such as additional front trunk space, as it hits the global market.

The full lineup, including the Cayenne Electric, Cayenne S Electric, Cayenne Turbo Electric, and Cayenne Coupe Electric, is expected to go on sale globally later this year, approximately nine months after the initial unveiling.
