Microsoft has surpassed 20 million paid enterprise seats for its Copilot AI tool, according to a report by techcrunch.com.
During the company's quarterly earnings conference call on Wednesday, CEO Satya Nadella stated that the user base and engagement for the AI assistant are growing. The tool is integrated into Microsoft 36-65 applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Nadella noted that the company has quadrupled the number of organizations paying for more than 50,000 seats. Large-scale clients including Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, Mercedes, and Roche currently hold more than 90,000 seats each.
Expanding enterprise deals
The company also highlighted a recent massive deal with Accenture, which involves over 740,000 seats. Nadella described this agreement as Microsoft's "largest Copilot win to date."
Beyond raw numbers, Nadella insisted that user engagement is reaching levels comparable to core communication tools. He reported that Copilot queries per user increased by nearly 20% quarter over quarter.
"To put this momentum in perspective, weekly engagement is now at the same level as Outlook," Nadella said. "This is like a daily habit of intense usage."
Microsoft is also moving away from a single-model dependency. Nadella explained that the platform now provides access to multiple models by default, utilizing intelligent auto-routing and agents to generate optimal responses.
