The Servo team announced the release of v0.1.0 of the servo crate on crates.io today, marking the first time the engine is available as a library for developers.
This release allows programmers to embed Servo’s high-performance web technologies directly into their own applications. The move transforms Servo from a standalone browser project into a modular tool for software integration.
While the release marks a milestone, the team noted that the version number does not signify a stable 1.0 release. Developers should expect continued evolution of the software.
Long-term support for developers
To assist developers who require more stability, the team is simultaneously offering a long-term support (LTS) version of Servo. This version aims to provide a predictable upgrade path for those who cannot accommodate frequent changes.
Monthly releases of the main crate will continue, but these updates may include breaking changes. The LTS version will focus on providing security updates and migration guides on a scheduled half-yearly basis.
"The increased version number reflects our growing confidence in Servo’s embedding API and its ability to meet some users’ needs," the Servo team stated in their announcement.
Currently, there are no plans to publish the 'servoshell' demo browser to crates.io. The team's focus remains on the core library and its utility as an embedding tool.
Development of the project has accelerated since its initial GitHub release in October 2025. The team noted that their release process has matured significantly over the last five release cycles.
