Ubisoft Singapore producer Justin Ng has promised that the upcoming Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced will feature the expected level of blood and gore during combat.
Ng made the comments on X on April 24 following a gameplay showcase that left players noticing a conspicuous lack of blood during assassinations. According to Kotaku, the developer is actively working to address visual and audio feedback before the game's launch on July 9.
“A few things to quickly address I guess (without getting into trouble hopefully),” Ng wrote on X. “There WILL be blood in the final game, and it will not be a paid DLC.”
Ng's response addressed specific concerns on Reddit and YouTube regarding the lack of bloodletting and common criticisms of Ubisoft's use of microtransaction paywalls. He also noted that the studio is listening to community criticism regarding combat feedback.
“We hear the feedback on the VFX and audio cues on fight. It’s being toned down,” Ng added.
Combat audio and visual feedback
Players on Reddit and YouTube expressed frustration not just with the lack of gore, but with the recent changes to parry mechanics during swashbuckling encounters. Some users described the new parry sounds as being excessively loud, with one commenter on the Assassin's Creed subreddit stating, “The parry sounds like a nuke exploding.”
Visual effects in the user interface also drew criticism from the community. One player suggested that Ubisoft provide a toggle for the bright flashing effects, noting that the current parry VFX are overly distracting.
Ubisoft is using the months leading up to the July 9 release to recalibrate these elements. The studio originally intended to launch Black Flag Resynced earlier this year but delayed the title to allow for extra polish.
Kotaku reported that this delay follows a recent trend of Ubisoft pushing back release dates to ensure games meet quality standards. The developer intends to use the remaining development time to fix the VFX and audio issues identified by the community.
