Sony is launching the InZone M10S II, an updated 1440p OLED gaming monitor designed to improve upon the features of its predecessor. The new model will be available later this year exclusively through Sony’s online shop.
Retaining the $1,099.99 price tag of the original M10S, the M10S II introduces significant hardware upgrades to justify its premium cost. The monitor features a fourth-generation WOLED panel utilizing LG Display’s Primary RGB Tandem technology.
This new panel offers higher brightness and contrast levels that rival QD-OLED competitors. A standout feature is the dual-mode functionality, which allows users to toggle between 5HLHz at QHD resolution via DisplayPort and a specialized 720Hz mode at 720p resolution.
Enhanced motion and visibility
This dual-mode capability targets competitive players who prioritize frame speed over resolution. The monitor also delivers a 0.02-millisecond response time, maintaining the ultra-fast performance expected of high-end OLED hardware.
Sony has addressed motion blur by adding black frame insertion (BFI) to the M10S II. The company claims its proprietary BFI algorithm delivers higher brightness levels than similar implementations found on competing monitors.
When BFI is active, the refresh rate caps at 240Hz rather than the raw 540Hz. This mode inserts a black frame between every other frame to smooth out the moving image.
To combat reflections, Sony updated the screen coating with a new "super anti-glare film." The monitor also includes extreme anti-VRR flicker technology to reduce visible brightness shifts during frame rate fluctuations.
Connectivity includes a DisplayPort 2.1a port supporting up to 54Gbps, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an integrated USB hub. The unit also features an evolved version of the original's disc-shaped stand, modified to allow for a larger tilting angle.
Sony faces stiff competition in the high-end market. LG's dual-mode QHD monitor currently retails for $799.99, while Alienware recently announced a $350 27-inch QD-OLED model.
