Sony is expanding its PC-focused InZone accessory catalog with the launch of the H6 Air, a new open-jack gaming headset priced at $199.99.
The H6 Air adopts the ergonomic, adjustable design of the flagship $350 H9 II wireless model but utilizes a wired connection and an open-back architecture.
By incorporating ventilation in the ear cups, the headset allows for a more natural soundstage and improved heat dissipation compared to closed-back alternatives.
Studio-grade audio performance
Sony equipped the H6 Air with the same drivers found in its MDR-MV1 professional reference headphones, which are designed for studio editors.
Testing shows the drivers deliver a substantial bass presence without muddying the mids or highs, making the headset suitable for both high-fidelity music and immersive gameplay.
While the open-back design prevents noise isolation, it enhances spatial awareness. In gameplay tests of Marathon, the headset maintained clear auditory cues, such as footsteps, despite the lack of external noise blocking.
Users can customize audio profiles through the InZone Hub desktop application. The software provides various equalizer settings, spatial sound options, and controls for the detachable boom microphone's sidetone and volume.
However, some technical quirks persist when using the included 3.5mm-to-USB-C adapter. During beta software testing, the adapter caused intermittent audio blips when loading applications or scrolling through browsers.
The headset's microphone remains functional for casual voice chat and video calls, though it lacks professional-grade vocal fidelity.
Despite a higher price point than some wired competitors like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro, the H6 Air offers a lightweight 200-gram build and high-end driver technology for gamers seeking an audiophile-adjacent experience.
