Best Buy has recently adjusted the pricing for the Lenovo Legion Go 2, with increases as steep as 48%. The base model has jumped from $1,100 to $1,500, while the high-capacity memory variant has soared to $2,000.

This price hike was first reported by the hardware news site Videocardz. When the series launched last autumn, its initial pricing already sparked concerns about the rising costs of handheld gaming; this sudden increase has only intensified the financial burden on prospective buyers.

The AI-Driven Memory Crisis

Industry analysts attribute the turmoil in the handheld market to a memory supply crunch fueled by the artificial intelligence boom. The relentless demand for high-performance memory chips from the AI sector has driven up procurement costs across the board, making it difficult for consumer electronics manufacturers to maintain previous price points.

Handheld manufacturer Ayaneo has publicly confirmed that it was forced to cancel the development of a flagship product. Ayaneo stated that due to the memory supply crisis, moving forward with production would have required doubling the product's price from $2,000 to $4,000—a figure deemed unfeasible in the current market climate.

While the Legion Go 2 has received critical acclaim for its hardware specifications and display quality, a $2,000 price tag far exceeds what mainstream gamers are willing to pay. Market observers note that as handheld costs continue to climb, companies like Valve will face increasingly difficult pricing challenges for their future product roadmaps.

Currently, the gaming hardware market is seeing a broad trend of rising prices. Beyond the handheld sector, cost pressures are also becoming increasingly apparent for consoles like the Sony PS5. As the memory shortage continues to unfold, the niche market for PC gaming handhelds may face a significant risk of contraction.
