Nick Apostolides, the voice actor for Leon S. Kennedy in Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, has identified his favorite character one-liner from the long-running horror franchise.
In a recent video interview with Polygon, Apostolides highlighted the phrase "Hasta luego!" from the original Resident Evil 4 as a personal standout.
The line, delivered by Leon as he shoots an explosive barrel, holds particular significance for the actor due to its cinematic influences.
"I’m also a game fan and at the time, it reminded me of the ‘hasta la vista, baby’ line," Apostolides told Polygon.
He noted the emotional impact of performing the line decades after first seeing the source material.
"That moment was so badass when I was watching it as my younger self. And then when I got to say it, it blew my mind," he said.
The appeal of Resident Evil's writing
Apostolides believes the character's penchant for quips contributes to Leon's enduring popularity among fans.
He argued that the dialogue prevents the character from becoming a one-dimensional archetype.
"I think it’s part of the reason why he’s so beloved," Apostolides said. "He’s not just one-dimensional. He’s not this stoic badass."
According to the actor, the character's multifaceted nature makes him difficult to pigeonhole into a single category.
This blend of horror and humor has become a hallmark of the series, which has transitioned from early era localization quirks to intentional comedic timing.
While lines like "Where’s everyone going? Bingo?" often top fan lists, the series continues to rely on short, punchy dialogue to punctuate high-tension sequences.
