Resident Evil Requiem has reached a 70% completion rate on Steam and 66.9% on PlayStation 5 just over a month after its release, according to data from UnGeek.
The figures, based on players unlocking the 'Rookie Agent' achievement/trophy, represent a significant outlier compared to other recent AAA titles.
Industry standards for completion rates rarely approach 80%. For large open-world titles, a 40% completion rate is typically considered a success, while linear games often see much lower numbers.
High engagement for linear horror
While the game's shorter runtime—averaging under 20 hours—likely contributed to the high numbers, the performance still exceeds expectations for the horror genre. UnGeek notes that recent horror title Silent Hill f holds only a 42.7% completion rate on Steam.
Even when filtering for higher difficulty settings, the engagement remains strong. The percentage of players who completed the game on 'Standard' (Modern) difficulty sits at 63.7%.
Comparisons to other major hits highlight how unusual these figures are. The Last of Us Part II saw a 58% completion rate months after launch, and Ghost of Tsushima reached roughly 50% after half a year.
While Capcom's official statistics website tracks total plays and clears, those numbers include replays by the same users. The Steam and PlayStation achievement data provides a more accurate look at unique player progression.
Resident Evil Requiem is currently available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
