In a press release issued on April 6, Nintendo confirmed that it will be offering a promotional bundle for Switch 2 buyers from April 12 through May 9. Customers who purchase the console alongside either a physical or digital copy of a Super Mario Galaxy title at participating retailers—including Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart—will receive a $20 discount.
The standard retail price for the Switch 2 console is currently $450, while Super Mario Galaxy titles are priced at $70. With this bundle, the total cost comes to $500. For comparison, the previously released Mario Kart World bundle was also priced at $500, though that package is now sold out, and Nintendo has stated that it will no longer be restocking it.
Controversy Over Pricing Strategy
Although the discount is modest and Super Mario Galaxy is essentially a remaster of a title from three console generations ago, industry analysts generally agree that this may be the best deal players can expect in the current macroeconomic climate. Production costs for electronic hardware continue to climb due to factors such as memory shortages driven by AI development, global trade tensions, and rising energy prices.
Previously, analysts and former Nintendo employees noted that the Switch 2 would inevitably face pressure to raise prices. While the $500 bundle price has sparked some frustration among fans regarding Nintendo's pricing strategy, the Switch 2 still maintains a competitive edge compared to the PlayStation 5 following Sony's recent price hikes.
Nintendo has yet to reveal any future promotional plans. Given the volatility of hardware costs, industry observers speculate that the company may introduce higher-priced bundles featuring classic games by the upcoming holiday shopping season to further accelerate the adoption of the new console.
