Sustainability Week in Pokémon Go

Niantic officially launched its Sustainability Week 2026 event today, bringing a fresh set of environmental-themed challenges and spawns to Pokémon Go players globally. The week-long activation prioritizes grass-type Pokémon and regional variants, encouraging players to explore local green spaces.

During the event, players will encounter increased spawn rates for Pokémon such as Trubbish, Drilbur, and Ferroseed. Developers confirmed that shiny variations for select species will appear more frequently for those exploring specific habitats.

Event bonuses and field research

The event introduces exclusive Field Research tasks that reward players with items like Incense and rare candy. Players can also participate in a global collection challenge, which requires catching a variety of eco-themed Pokémon to earn a commemorative medal and specialized avatar items.

"We want our community to engage with their local environments while enjoying the game," a Niantic spokesperson stated in the release. The company is also promoting a temporary reduction in Buddy Pokémon walking requirements, allowing trainers to earn hearts and candy more efficiently while they are out walking.

Raids throughout the week will feature high-level encounters, including appearances by legendary Pokémon associated with nature and growth. These raids provide a rotating schedule that shifts every 48 hours, keeping the gameplay loop dynamic for active participants.

Players should note that the event concludes on April 27 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Niantic advises trainers to clear out their Field Research slots early to ensure they can pick up the event-specific tasks as soon as they begin their journey.
