A new trailer for the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, has debuted, offering a first look at the origin story of Haymitch Abernathy.
Directed by Francis Lawrence and co-written by Suzanne Collins, the film serves as a prequel set 24 years before the events of the original trilogy. The story focuses on the period leading up to the Second Quarter Quell.
According to reports from Polygon, the film aims to replicate the emotional intensity of Collins' novel. The plot explores how a bright-eyed young man transforms into the cynical, traumatimzed mentor known to fans of the original series.
Joseph Zada will portray the younger version of Haymitch Abernathy. The character was previously portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the film adaptations.
Star-studded ensemble cast
The trailer highlights several high-profile casting additions to the Panem universe. Ralph Fiennes joins the cast as President Snow, taking over the role previously held by Tom Blythe.
Elle Fanning is set to play Effie Trinket, a role originally played by Elizabeth Banks. Kieran Culkin will portray the flamboyant host Caesar Flickerman, succeeding Stanley Tucci.
Other notable cast members include Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee. The film also features Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, and Lenore Dove Baird.
Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20.
