Amazon is scaling up its Spider-Verse ambitions with two new trailers for the upcoming series Spider-Noir, revealed at CCXPMX26. The footage suggests the production's scope matches the budget of major Spider-Man feature films, according to polygon.com.
Starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, also known as The Spider, the show offers a look at a more comic-book-oriented aesthetic. The trailers were released in both black-and-white and 'True-Hue' color formats to highlight the series' unique visual identity.
A deep dive into the Spider-Verse
The footage emphasizes a connection between Reilly and the character Black Cat. Action sequences in the trailer feature combat against classic foes including Sandman and the lesser-known villain Megawatt.
Brendan Gleeson also appears in a substantial role as the mob boss Silvermane. While some viewers initially feared the show might adopt a strictly grounded tone, the latest footage shows the production embracing more fantastical elements from the source material.
Inspired by Cage's 2018 performance in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the series adapts an alternate universe comic book run. Set in the 1930s, the story follows Reilly, a retired private investigator who is forced back into action to face threats like Sandman and Tombstone.
Polygon.com noted that while one trailer features an electricity-based villain, the character is actually the deep-cut foe Megawatt rather than the more famous Electro. This inclusion signals that the series intends to honor the more eccentric aspects of the comics.
Viewers can catch the first episode of Spider-Noir on MGM Plus starting May 25. The full season will arrive on Prime Video on May 27, with both color and black-and-white versions available for streaming.
