Netflix has delayed the release of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film, 'Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,' to February 2027, according to TechCrunch.

The streaming giant originally scheduled the film for a Thanksgiving 2026 release. The updated timeline includes exclusive IMAX previews starting February 10, 2027, followed by a wide global theatrical release on February 12.

Audiences will not be able to stream the film on Netflix until April 2, 2027. Netflix has characterized this new strategy as a "global eventized release."

The delay represents a significant shift in Netflix's approach to cinema. The company previously planned for the film to play exclusively on IMAX screens for two weeks before arriving on streaming services during the Christmas season.

In a statement regarding the change, IMAX noted that the delay will allow the film to have "a full theatrical window." This move suggests a reduction in friction between the streamer and major theater chains.

This strategic pivot follows a period of tension between streaming platforms and exhibitors. TechCrunch reported that Netflix's resistance to exclusive theatrical windows was a "dealbreaker" during negotiations with the creators of 'Stranger Things,' who eventually moved to Paramount.

Recent developments suggest a thawing relationship between the two parties. AMC Theatres recently highlighted the success of its 'Stranger Things' finale screenings and expressed interest in further cooperation with the streamer.
