Indonesian rating board glitch leaks 007 First Light endgame footage
Video game footage leak

A security flaw in the Indonesian Game Rating System (IGRS) leaked gameplay footage from IO Interactive’s upcoming title, 007: First Light, over the weekend. The breach allowed endgame clips from the highly anticipated James Bond game to circulate online.

The IGRS assigns age ratings to games developed or published in Indonesia, as enough to authorize their sale within the country. To ensure these ratings are accurate, game companies must submit content they deem relevant to the game's maturity level. This submission process is a standard requirement for entering the Indonesian market.

The security breach allowed unauthorized access to these submitted materials. This included high-level gameplay footage that reveals critical plot points and late-game mechanics.

Wider industry exposure

The vulnerability extends to other major publishers. According to VGC, the security flaw also affects Bandai Namco’s Echoes of Aincrad. The scale of the leak suggests a systemic issue within the rating board's digital infrastructure.

The breach also compromised the personal information of thousands of game developers. The leaked data includes professional email addresses, posing a direct risk to industry communications and increasing the potential for targeted phishing attacks.

007: First Light represents a chance for IO Interactive to establish a new direction for the James Bond IP. The story features a version of the character never before seen in gaming: a charming but brash young man eager to prove himself. This origin story aims to ground the character in a new era of espionage.

The leak comes during a sensitive period for the developer. IO Interactive recently pushed the game's release from March to May in late December.

The appearance of endgame footage disrupts the studio's ability to control the game's narrative reveal. Seeing the conclusion of the story prematurely changes the impact of the upcoming launch.

Leaks are a recurring problem for the gaming industry. High-profile titles like The Witcher 3 and Grand Theft Auto 6 faced similar pre-release exposure. In the case of Grand Theft Auto 6, in-development clips were shared online while fans still await an official release window.

Players can access the new Bond origin story on May 27. The game will launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for a later release date.
