On April 9, Arc System Works officially released the 2.00 update for Guilty Gear -Strive- across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, Xbox, and Windows platforms. This major update introduces a new playable character and implements comprehensive adjustments to the game's UI and ranked matchmaking systems.
Jam Kuradoberi and New Combat Content
The long-awaited classic character, Jam Kuradoberi, has officially joined the roster. Players can unlock her by purchasing the Season 5 Pass or as a standalone DLC, which also includes her exclusive theme song, "Trying hard is hard, so I try hard to try hard." Additionally, the developers have added a new stage titled "Cradled by the Four Beasts" and optimized several existing maps to improve overall performance and stability during matches.
Regarding the combat engine, the game has been updated to version 5.00. The team introduced a "Battle UI Skin" feature, allowing players to customize elements like health bars, with built-in styles such as "Vintage Metal." Addressing community feedback, the developers have also adjusted the priority for character colors in online play: the system will now prioritize displaying the player's chosen color rather than forcing a P1 perspective, significantly improving the visual experience.
In terms of ranked play, the team has overhauled the "Vanquisher" rank reset mechanism. Instead of a blanket reset, points for the new season will now be adjusted dynamically based on the player's final performance in the previous phase, ensuring faster matchmaking against opponents of similar skill levels at the start of the season. Furthermore, the Vanquisher rank has been subdivided into three tiers, and a new "Imperius" title has been introduced for the top 100 ranked players.
For Training Mode, the game now features an "Attack Interval" display. This tool provides a visual representation of frame data, helping players more accurately identify combo windows and wake-up pressure opportunities. The character selection screen has also been redesigned to support a three-row layout, and the random select function has been simplified, allowing players to trigger it directly via the L1 button.
Finally, the "R-Code" system has been upgraded with new "Wanted Poster" customization options. VIP players will now receive special visual effects on their avatars to better showcase their status. This maintenance also addressed several known bugs and updated various character interaction lines to further flesh out the game's lore.
