Toho has released the first teaser trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, revealing that the upcoming sequel will move the franchise's destruction from Tokyo to New York City. The footage shows the iconic monster standing adjacent to the Statue of Liberty.
Set in 1949, two years after the events of the 2023 hit Godzilla Minus One, the film follows the continuation of the Shikishima family's struggle. According to the official logline reported by theverge.com, the story "continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity."
Director Takashi Yamazaki returns to helm the project. Yamazaki is also currently working on a separate giant robot feature titled Grandgear.
IMAX expansion and returning cast
Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe will reprise their lead roles from the previous film. Toho announced that Minus Zero will make history as the first Japanese production filmed specifically for IMAX.
The announcement arrives during a period of high activity for the Godzilla franchise. The character is set to appear in the upcoming Legendary Monsterverse entry, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and currently features in the Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6th.
