Developer FuturLab will remove the Final Fantasy 7 and Tomb Raider DLC packs from PowerWash Simulator on May 19. The studio announced the removal in a recent blog post, citing the conclusion of its publishing relationship with Square Enix.
While the add-ons will be delisted from digital stores, players who already own the content can continue to play it. Both packs are currently available for free on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows PC.
Moving toward self-publishing
The removal marks a transition for the studio as it moves away from the Square Enix Collective program. This program originally provided visibility and support to promising indie developers like FuturLab.
FuturLab CEO Kirsty Rigden previously described the partnership as a collaborative success. "They let us lead a lot on marketing. We did a lot of the work ourselves, because we knew the game better, and they amplified it and helped where necessary," Rigden told GamesIndustry.biz.
Despite the positive relationship, the studio intends to pursue a long-term strategy of self-publishing. This shift follows the massive success of PowerWash Simulator, which allowed the studio to manage its own subsequent releases.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Midgar DLC features interactive elements such as scrubbing a Shinra Hauler and cleaning Cloud's motorcycle. The Tomb Raider pack allows players to clean Croft Manor and maintain Lara Croft's artifact displays.
FuturLab has already demonstrated its ability to operate independently. The studio published PowerWash Simulator 2 in October 2025, earning two BAFTA nominations for best family game and best British game.
