Peter Molyneux, the creator of the Fable franchise, has expressed regret over the decision to remove the iconic morality system from the upcoming Fable reboot.

Speaking on the direction of the new project, Molyneo stated it is 'a real shame' that the series is dropping the 'horns-or-halo' mechanic that defined previous entries.

According to a report from PC Gamer, the developer has moved away from the system where player choices directly altered the character's physical appearance and social standing.

In the original series, players could become overtly heroic or monstrously villainous, with visual cues like halos or horns signaling their alignment to the world.

A shift in gameplay focus

While specific details regarding the new gameplay mechanics remain sparse, the removal of this binary morality system marks a significant departure from the franchise's roots.

PC Gamer notes that the reboot aims to modernize the experience, though the loss of the alignment system has drawn attention from long-time fans of the RPG series.

Playground Games is currently developing the reboot under the oversight of Xbox Game Studios. The studio has focused on rebuilding the world of Albion, but the core mechanical shifts suggest a different approach to player agency than the original titles.
