Disney Lorcana is expanding its roster to include Pixar characters in the upcoming 'Wilds Unknown' set, according to a report from polygon.com.
Scheduled for wide release on May 15, the new expansion introduces the game's first-ever Pixar cards. The set follows a narrative arc where a magical vine, introduced in the 'Whispers in the Well' set, has spread beyond the Great Illuminary into the uncharted territory of The Great Empty Sea.
Toy Story characters lead the new lineup. Woody – Leader of the Toys is an amber hero card that allows players to search their decks for 'Toy' characters or the 'Andy’s Room' location. Buzz Lightyear – Jungle Ranger enters the game as a powerful card with seven strength and five willpower.
New mechanics are also arriving with the expansion. The 'Toy' classification allows players to build specialized decks around specific character types. For instance, the Pizza Planet – Spaceport location allows toys to move there for a zero cost.
Pixar characters and new gameplay mechanics
The expansion also features characters from Pixar's 'Brave' and 'The Incredibles.' Merida – Formidable Archer can be used in powerful combos with the Three Arrows action card to increase damage output.
From 'The Incredibles,' Dash Parr – Lava Runner appears as an amethyst card with a unique 'Record Time' ability. The set also includes a two-card panorama depicting a battle against the Omnidroid.
Ravensburger is also introducing a new pre-release kit format on May 8. This box will include six booster packs, a randomized promo card, a collectible postcard, and themed dice.
A new two-player starter set, priced at $29.99, will launch with a 'toys vs. supers' theme. This product is intended as an evergreen entry point for new players.
Looking ahead, the 'Attack of the Vine!' set is slated for late July. This upcoming release will mark the debut of 'Monsters Inc.' characters, including Mike, Sully, and Boo, according to the polygon.com report.
