Bennett Foddy, the developer behind cult-hit titles QWOP and Baby Steps, refuses to uninstall Baldur’s Gate 3 from his hard drive, even though he has no intention of finishing it. According to reporting by PC Gamer, the designer remains drawn to the Larian Studios RPG despite hitting a wall with its sheer scale.

Foddy explained that his departure from the game was a matter of volume. “It was too big and so I stopped,” Foddy told the outlet. Despite this lack of progress, he keeps the massive installation on his system as a permanent fixture, acknowledging a lingering attachment to the experience.

A preference for ‘friendslop’ games

Beyond his stalled progress in the Sword Coast, Foddy highlighted a specific interest in what he terms “friendslop” games. These titles prioritize social connection and shared experiences over traditional completionist mechanics or rigid progression systems. Foddy suggests that his design philosophy often leans toward these types of interactions, where the value lies in the activity itself rather than reaching a final credits screen.

This perspective provides insight into the mind of a creator known for intentionally frustrating, physics-based challenges. While his own games often demand rigorous repetition, Foddy’s personal gaming habits reveal a preference for experiences that do not necessarily require a linear conclusion. By keeping Baldur’s Gate 3 installed, he maintains a connection to the game’s world, even if he has opted out of its lengthy narrative journey.
