20th Century Studios is moving to adapt the Roblox horror hit 99 Nights in the Forest into a feature film, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The project marks the first time the Disney-owned studio has attempted a game adaptation. It joins a growing list of Roblox properties currently being developed for the big screen.

Released in June 202 fragment 5, 99 Nights in the Forest has become one of the platform's most successful titles. The game has recorded 26 billion lifetime visits and reached a peak of 14 million concurrent players.

"The team at Grandma’s Favourite Games are exactly the kind of bold, imaginative creators we love working with at 20th Century Studios," said David Greenbaum, president of 20th Century Studios and Disney's live-action arm.

Greenbaum added that the game's world-building ideas feel "innately cinematic" and that the studio intends to build on its global player base.

Roblox as a Hollywood goldmine

The developers of the game expressed excitement about the collaboration, noting that working with such a legendary studio feels "surreal."

"We’re excited to explore the world of 99 Nights in the Forest on a broader stage and to create some scares in an entirely new medium," the creators said in a news release.

This move follows a trend of studios mining Roblox for narrative-light content that can be easily expanded into films. Other titles currently in development include Grow A Garden and Steal a Brainrot, both being handled by Story Kitchen.

Wind Sun Sky Entertainment is also working on a film based on the Roblox title Jailbreak. Producers are looking to Roblox's massive, built-in audiences to find the next major franchise success.

Major studios are heavily investing in video game adaptations for 2026, with titles like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Mortal Kombat 2 already on the schedule. The industry is also seeing success from smaller-scale projects, such as Markiplier's Iron Lung, suggesting the market for game-based cinema extends beyond traditional AAA titles.
