Leap Wallet, a non-custodial crypto wallet within the Cosmos ecosystem, has announced that the project will officially cease operations on May 28, 2026.

The shutdown affects all Leap services, including its browser extension, iOS and Android mobile apps, web application, the Swapfast trading platform, and the Leap Cosmos Hub validator node. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Leap team noted that this was a difficult decision, though they remain optimistic about the long-term future of cryptocurrency and the cross-chain ecosystem.

Founded in late 2021, Leap Wallet initially received a $50,000 grant from Terraform Labs. In early 2022, the project raised $3.2 million in a seed round co-led by CoinFund and Pantera Capital.

Following the collapse of the Terra ecosystem, Leap pivoted its focus to the broader Cosmos multi-chain ecosystem. At its peak, the wallet was widely viewed as a gateway application for Cosmos, similar to MetaMask for Ethereum or Phantom for Solana, offering features such as cross-chain interaction and token staking.

Asset Migration and Security Notice

Addressing concerns regarding asset security, the Leap team emphasized that because it is a non-custodial wallet, user assets are never stored on the company's servers. Users can import and recover their addresses in other compatible crypto wallets using their seed phrases or private keys, with no need to perform actual asset transfers or transactions.

For users currently staking via the Leap Cosmos Hub validator, the team advises re-delegating ATOM tokens to other validators as soon as possible to ensure continuous staking rewards and to account for the network's unbonding period.

The team stated in their announcement: "We have operated with conviction, care, and a sense of responsibility toward our users and community. Even as we close this chapter, we remain steadfast supporters of those continuing to build on the front lines of this industry."
