San Francisco police arrested two suspects early Sunday morning following a shooting outside the residence of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the city’s Russian Hill neighborhood. The incident marks the second time in three days that the executive’s home has been targeted by attackers.

Officers arrived at the property around 2:56 a.m. on April 12 after receiving reports of possible gunfire. According to a police statement, investigators used surveillance footage to identify a vehicle seen passing the residence during the time of the shooting. The footage captured the vehicle's license plate, which led officers to the suspects.

Investigation and police response

Police apprehended two individuals, aged 25 and 23, and subsequently recovered three firearms during a search of their residence. Both suspects now face charges related to the negligent discharge of a firearm.

“The SFPD takes crimes involving guns extremely seriously, and anyone committing acts like these will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew said in a statement. “I want to thank our officers whose swift actions identified these suspects, took them into custody, and got dangerous weapons off our streets.”

This shooting follows an attack at the same location just two days prior. On Friday, a 20-year-old man was arrested after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at Altman’s home. Authorities have not yet publicly stated whether they believe the two incidents are linked or if they were coordinated acts.

Investigations into both the Friday firebombing and Sunday’s shooting remain ongoing. San Francisco officials have not released further details regarding potential motives or whether Altman was inside the home when the shots were fired.
