Lucid Group delivered 3,093 vehicles in the first quarter of 2026, a 42% decrease compared to the previous quarter. The company, which produces the Air sedan and the Gravity SUV, manufactured approximately 5,500 vehicles during the same period.
Lucid pointed to a quality issue with second-row seats as the reason for the disparity between production and delivery figures. According to company statements, this supply chain disruption necessitated a 29-day suspension of Gravity sales.
"Following eight record quarters, we showed strong results in both January and March which very nearly achieved year-over-year growth on their own," Lucid spokesperson Nick Twork told TechCrunch.
Recall and remediation
The supplier defect also prompted a safety recall affecting over 4,000 Gravity SUVs. Lucid informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it had identified improperly welded anchors for the second-row seat belts.
Twork confirmed that the sales decline was a direct result of unauthorized modifications made by the supplier to the component. The company halted sales for most of February to verify vehicle quality before resuming normal operations.
Despite the first-quarter downturn, Lucid confirmed that the issue has been resolved and that it is sticking to its 2026 production guidance. The company anticipates building between 25,000 and 27,000 vehicles this year, which would represent an increase of up to 47% over its 2025 total of 18,378 units.
