Social media platform X announced on Tuesday that it is rolling out an automated post-translation feature to users worldwide, alongside a new AI-powered image editor for its iOS app. Both features are powered by the Grok model, developed by Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI.

X product lead Nikita Bier stated that the auto-translation feature is now being pushed out globally. Users who are dissatisfied with the translation for a specific language can disable it by tapping the gear icon on the translated post. Other social platforms, such as Reddit, have previously experimented with machine-learning translations to broaden the global reach of their content.

Introducing Natural Language Image Processing

In addition to the translation capabilities, the latest iOS update introduces a robust suite of image editing tools. Beyond standard drawing and text annotation, the tool includes a built-in blur feature, allowing users to easily obscure sensitive information such as faces, credit card numbers, or social security numbers.

More innovatively, users can now direct Grok to modify images using natural language prompts. For example, a user can simply type, "Show this photo as an oil painting in a museum," and Grok will automatically generate the corresponding visual effect. X has indicated that these updates are expected to reach the Android platform in the near future.

Tech giants like Google and Adobe have already introduced similar AI-driven image editing commands to their products. However, X has not yet clarified whether these AI-powered editing features will be restricted to paid subscribers.

Previously, X and its AI generation capabilities have faced significant pressure. Earlier this year, Musk faced harsh criticism from regulators worldwide after the platform allowed users to edit photos of others into explicit content without consent. Since then, X has restricted image generation features to paid users. It remains unclear whether this new feature will follow the same access strategy.
