Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark confirmed this week that the AI company has briefed the Trump administration regarding its new Mythos model. Speaking at the Semafor World Economy summit, Clark noted the company is actively engaging with U.S. officials despite ongoing legal disputes with the Department of Defense.
The Mythos model, which debuted last week, has not been released to the public. The company has withheld the technology due to its alleged powerful cybersecurity capabilities.
Navigating national security and legal disputes
Anthropic is currently suing the Department of Defense after the agency labeled the company a supply-chain risk this past March. The dispute stems from disagreements over whether the Pentagon should have unrestricted access to Anthropic's AI systems for use cases involving autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance.
Clark characterized the supply-chain risk designation as a "narrow contracting dispute." He maintained that the company remains committed to national security interests.
"Our position is the software has to be known to the government, and we have to find new ways for the government to partner with a private sector that is making things that are truly revolutionizing the economy," Clark said. He added that the company intends to continue discussions regarding Mythos and future models.
These discussions follow reports that Trump administration officials have encouraged major financial institutions, including JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, to test the Mythos model.
Clark also addressed the broader economic shifts driven by AI development. While Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned of potential Depression-era levels of unemployment, Clark reported seeing only "some potential weakness in early graduate employment" within specific industries.
Regarding education, Clark advised students to focus on majors that require synthesis and analytical thinking across multiple subjects. He noted that while AI provides access to vast domain expertise, the value lies in knowing how to ask the right questions and connecting insights from different disciplines.
